Let’s face it, we’re a visual society.  We are drawn to people and things that are great to look at.  In the same vein, consumers are largely drawn to products that visually attract them.  According to several research studies, 93% of consumers place visual appearance and the color of products above other factors when shopping.  In fact, 85% of shoppers place color as a primary reason for why they buy a particular item.  It gets even more interesting when you start to think about how colors make buyers feel.  For example, purple is often used to soothe and calm shoppers and is commonly found on the packaging of beauty products.  Blue is said to create the sensation of trust and security and is used more often than not by banks and professional service businesses.

But, don’t be fooled into thinking that color alone is the shotgun approach to drawing in consumers.  As you may know, great color on its own won’t put your product on the map.  The combination of strategic color choices, great design, website functionality and copywriting are all ingredients for a powerful package.  Check out the infographic below for more interesting stats on strategies for great product design.
